MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Minnesota Timberwolves forward Al Jefferson has been suspended for two games after a drunken driving arrest, team officials said Sunday.
Timberwolves President for Basketball Operations David Kahn said in a statement the team was "disappointed" that Jefferson "used poor judgment" in the incident, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.
"Thankfully, nobody was injured," the statement said. "We believe it is appropriate for Al to be suspended for the next two games without pay."
Minnesota State Patrol officials told KSTP-TV, Minneapolis-St Paul, that Jefferson was arrested early Saturday on a freeway west of downtown Minneapolis and was booked into jail after failing a field sobriety test.
He was released at 3:19 a.m. Saturday and is scheduled for an April 23 court appearance, nine days after the Timberwolves' final regular season game, the Star Tribune said.
Jefferson's arrest came hours after Minnesota had lost its ninth game in 10 games tries, falling to Portland 110-91.
