Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Oakland Athletics have signed veteran starters Brett Tomko and Jason Jennings to minor league contracts, team officials said Sunday.
Tomko, 36, is nursing an arm injury that shortened his 2009 season, when he pitched for both the A's and the Yankees. He went a combined 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA.
He started six games for Oakland and made 15 relief appearances for the Yankees.
Jennings, 31, a former starter, was used primarily in relief last season by the Texas Rangers, making 44 appearances out of the bullpen. The former National League Rookie of the Year (2002 with Colorado) has a career record of 100-102 with a 4.65 ERA in 389 games.
