Canada collects curling gold

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Skip Kevin Martin made the key shots in the final two ends Saturday to bring Canada a 6-3 win over Norway in the Olympic curling gold medal match.

It was the 13th gold medal of the Vancouver Games for Canada, equaling the record set by Norway eight years ago in Salt Lake City.

Canada won its second straight men's Olympic curling title.

The Canadians had a two-point lead going into the ninth end and Norway was in position to score one. Martin, having the final shot, knocked Norway's stone away and replaced it with his own, putting Canada in front by three heading to the final end.

Norway then had two stones in scoring position in the 10th end with one shot for each side remaining. When Martin was able to knock one of them away, it ended Norway's hopes of tying the match.

Switzerland won the bronze medal with a 5-4 victory over Sweden in the third-place match.

The Swiss have won a medal in three of the four Olympic curling tournaments.
