Rangers void Greene's contract

SURPRISE, Ariz., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers voided the contract of infielder Khalil Greene Thursday because of a recurrence of social anxiety disorder.

Greene, 30, who signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Rangers to be a utility infielder this year, will not be playing for the club, Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels told MLB.com.

"This is not about the contract, this is about a player getting well," Daniels told the Web site, adding that the decision was made to void Greene's contract after discussions were held with the Commissioner's Office, the Major League Baseball Players Association and Greene's agent, Mike Milchin.

Greene was twice placed on the disabled list with the Cardinals last season because of social anxiety disorder, but Daniels said the Rangers had believed that Greene had the disorder under control.

MLB.com said Greene had been in Phoenix and was preparing to report to the Rangers' training camp but then told team officials he was not going to report.
