NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The NFL said Wednesday it would not discipline Oakland Coach Tom Cable, who was accused of attacking an assistant coach and being abusive to women.
No charges had been filed in the case involving the other coach, and the domestic abuse resulted from alleged incidents years ago, before Cable became an NFL head coach, league spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement.
Cable, 45, had been accused of attacking assistant Randy Hanson during training camp and breaking his jaw. The district attorney in California's Napa County declined to file charges in the case.
The ESPN show "Outside the Lines" reported last fall that Cable had been accused of domestic abuse against an ex-wife and former girlfriend.
The National Organization for Women recommended that Cable be suspended, alleging he has a history of abusive behavior toward women.
Cable became Raiders coach in the middle of the 2008 season.
