Fish, Karlovic advance at Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Mardy Fish advanced to the second round of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championship Tuesday when his opponent withdrew with a back injury.

Belgian Christophe Rochus threw in the towel with the third set tied 3-3 and the match deadlocked at 5-7, 6-3.

Fish, the tournament's defending champion, racked up 25 aces in the abbreviated match and will face Germany's Mischa Zverev, who ousted eighth-seeded American Michael Russell 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Also advancing Tuesday was No. 2 seed Ivo Karlovic of Croatia, who topped Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 7-6 (3), and third-seeded Benjamin Becker of Germany, who bested Kei Nishikori 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
