BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer struck for an eagle on the first playoff hole Sunday and won the Champions Tour's Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla.
Two-time Masters champion Langer holed out while shooting from a greenside bunker, eagling the par-five 18th hole at The Old Course at Broken Sound and prompting a fist-pumping celebration of his win over John Cook.
Cook seemed to hold the advantage after the golfers' first shots, later blasting a nice second shot from the rough while Langer's response landed in the sand.
Langer blasted out of the bunker, landing almost 10 feet short of the hole. But the ball rolled into the center of the cup for the win.
For the 52-year-old German who now calls Boca Raton home, the win felt like a hometown victory.
"I'm emotional because it's in front of my home crowd, my family," Langer said while pocketing $247,500 with the win. "I've lived here for 24 years. It doesn't get better."
