Sharapova, Arvidsson set for Memphis final

MEMPHIS, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Maria Sharapova and Sofia Arvidsson notched semifinal wins Friday and will meet for the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & the Cellular South Cup title.

Top-seeded Russian Sharapova defeated No. 5 Czech Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-3 in one of Friday's semis, while former Memphis champ Arvidsson of Sweden took more than two hours to down Briton Anne Keothavong 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the other matchup.

Sharapova, 22, the former world No. 1, advanced to her 29th career final, in which she has racked up an impressive 20-8 record.

The 26-year-old Arvidsson, meanwhile, will appear in only her third career final. Her 2006 Memphis victory remains her lone title.

Arvidsson met Sharapova once before, losing to the Russian in Luxembourg in 2003.
