BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Jay Haas and Tom Jenkins fired identical eight-under 64s Friday to each claim the lead after one round of the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla.
Closely following the pair at one stroke back were Corey Pavin and Mike Reid at minus-seven after the day's play on The Old Course at Broken Sound Club.
Five players, meanwhile, were two strokes off the lead, including Loren Roberts, who carded a six-under 66 along with Jim Roy, Tim Simpson, John Cook and Tom Lehman.
Haas, playing the back nine first, finished off a run of four straight birdies at the par-three third, parred the fourth and collected birdies on five and six to pull into a tie with Jenkins.
Jenkins, meanwhile, sank birdies on the par-three 14th and 16th holes to get to seven-under and birdied the last to finish alongside Haas.
