MARANA, Ariz., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Top seeds Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Jim Furyk were all eliminated Thursday at the WCG-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.
The trio's losses followed Wednesday's exit of No. 1 overall seed Steve Stricker at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Ariz.
Westwood, who held the top seed in the tourney's Gary Player bracket, lost 2 & 1 to No. 8 Nick Watney, while No. 1 Ben Hogan bracket seed Kaymer was decimated by Tim Clark, 3 & 2.
Furyk had the best showing of the three, rebounding to all-square in his match against No. 9 Charl Schwartzel before ultimately falling by a 3 & 2 score.
The No. 2 seeds also have struggled. Paul Casey was the only second seed to emerge with a win, while Padraig Harrington lost Wednesday, Henrik Stenson conceded while suffering from the flu and Rory McIlroy lost a close match to Oliver Wilson Thursday in extra holes.
