Britain bounces back in men's curling

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Defending world champion Britain bounced back from an unexpected loss in its opening match Wednesday to crush France 9-4 in men's Olympic curling.

Canada, Sweden and Switzerland all stayed unbeaten in two games to take the lead in the nine-match, round-robin tournament.

Britain was a 6-4 victim of Sweden in the first day of the tournament, but had no trouble getting back on course for the semifinals. Sweden ran its record to 2-0 with a 6-3 victory over Germany.

Switzerland rallied for a point in the final end of regulation and then scored again in the 11th end to down the United States 7-6. The Americans fell to 0-3.

China won its first Olympic curling match ever with an 8-1 decision over Denmark. The Chinese are 1-1 in their Olympic debut.
