RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Ray Whitney and Jussi Jokinen each had two goals and an assist Saturday to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-2 win over New Jersey.

The win was a season-high fifth straight for the Hurricanes, who moved out of the Eastern Conference cellar.

Carolina's Zach Boychuk scored his first career NHL goal while Justin Peters made 23 saves to pick up his second win in as many NHL starts.

The Devils picked up two penalties early in the second period and Carolina scored two goals to take advantage. The first tally goal came at the 4:34 mark from Eric Staal, and exactly one minute later, Whitney poked a Tim Gleason rebound past Martin Brodeur.

New Jersey got goals from Zach Parise and Brian Rolston, while Brodeur was touched for four goals on 22 shots before being pulled in the third period.
