VALENCIA, Spain, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The start of the 2010 America's Cup series was postponed Wednesday, the second delay in the race off the coast of Spain.

Friday was set as the target day for the start of the best-of-three series between two-time defending America's Cup champion Alinghi 5, a Swiss boat, and USA, an American entry sailed by BMW Oracle.

Officials Wednesday cited waves of 4-6 feet, which threatened the 90-foot, multi-hulled yachts, as causes for the latest postponement. Monday it was unsettled winds off Valencia, Spain, that halted racing.

Alinghi won the America's Cup in 2003 and defended its title in 2007. BMW Oracle is seeking to return the America's Cup to the United States for the first time since America3 won in 1992.
