UNIONDALE, N.Y., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Mark Streit scored with 11 seconds left to tie the score and John Tavares got the shootout winner Tuesday as the New York Islanders downed Nashville 4-3.
With the Islanders trailing 3-2 as regulation time was winding down, Nashville was whistled for a penalty and Streit got a power-play goal to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless extra session, each club scored once through the first three rounds of the shootout before Tavares got the decisive tally. Martin Biron made it hold up by denying Nashville's Patric Hornqvist in the bottom of the shootout frame.
New York also got goals from Freddy Meyer and Bruno Gervais, while Biron, making his first NHL start since Dec. 27, blocked 24 shots.
Nashville, which lost for the eighth time in 10 games, got goals from Steve Sullivan, Cal O'Reilly and Joel Ward.
