CNN suspends Martin for Super Bowl tweets


PARIS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Elena Vesnina of Russia scored a straight-set victory Monday to move on to the second round of the Open GDF Suez tennis tournament in Paris.
Vesnina cruised past Romanian Alexandra Duygheru 6-1, 6-4.
In another match, Hungarian Agnes Szavay, who is unseeded, led Olga Govortsova 6-3, 1-0 when the Belarusian player withdrew from the match.
Russian Elena Dementieva is the event's top seed and Italy's Flavia Pennetta is No. 2. Both received byes to the second round.
Defending champion Amelie Mauresmo of France has retired from the women's tour.
