COL BKB: Purdue 78, Indiana 75

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Robbie Hummel made three free throws in the final 12 seconds Thursday and No. 7 Purdue held on to defeat Indiana 78-75.

The Boilermakers have won five games in a row following a three-game skid, but they had to survive a last-second miss by Indiana's Verdell Jones to pull out the victory. Purdue won in Bloomington for the first time in a dozen years.

Hummel was fouled with 4 seconds left and he could make only one attempt, giving the Hoosiers a chance to tie it. The 3-point try by Jones failed to go, leaving Indiana with its third straight loss.

Hummel and JaJuan Johnson each scored 21 points, boosting Purdue to 19-3 for the season. The Boilermakers are 7-3 in the Big Ten Conference, tied for second with Wisconsin and Ohio State two games behind Michigan State.

Jones led the Hoosiers (9-12, 3-6) with 22 points.
