Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

MONTREAL, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Jaroslav Halak's 45 saves helped the Montreal Canadiens hold off the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 Tuesday.
Vancouver's Ryan Kesler pulled the Canucks to within one on a power-play goal with 5:50 to play, but Halak shut the door down the stretch to help the Habs break a three-game winless streak.
Sergei Kostitsyn, Maxim Lapierre and Tomas Plekanec each scored for Montreal. Plekanec's goal off a scrum in front of Canucks netminder Roberto Luongo was the key tally, giving Montreal a 3-1 lead midway through the third period.
Mikael Samuelsson joined Kesler in scoring for the Canucks in the loss, which snapped their seven-game winning streak. Luongo was touched for three goals on 28 shots.
