COL BKB: Vanderbilt 75, Mississippi St. 72

NASHVILLE, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Jermaine Beal scored 17 points Wednesday and No. 20 Vanderbilt withstood a late Mississippi State charge to down the Bulldogs 75-72.

The Commodores owned a 14-point lead with 4:45 to play, but the Bulldogs rallied to within one on a 3-pointer by Dee Bost with 28 seconds remaining.

John Jenkins restored a three-point lead by making two free throws with 6 seconds left. Romero Osby missed an attempt to tie the game from 3-point range with a second to go.

A.J. Ogilvy scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half for Vanderbilt (17-4, 6-1 Southeastern Conference). Vanderbilt had a 10-game winning streak snapped last Saturday by Kentucky.

Mississippi State (16-6, 4-3) was led by Kodi Augustus with 15 and Jarvis Varnado with 12.
