COL BKB: Northern Iowa 59, Wichita St. 56

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Kerwin Dunham's free throw gave Northern Iowa a three-point lead with 8 seconds to go Wednesday and the No. 22 Panthers held on to down Wichita State 59-56.

Wichita's J.T. Durley brought the Shockers within two with 1:51 to play by hitting a 3-pointer, but they could not score another point. Wichita missed three attempts from 3-point range during the last 62 seconds.

The last try came from Clevin Hannah with 4 seconds remaining.

Kwadzo Ahelegbe scored 18 points for Northern Iowa and his jumper with 2:05 to go gave the Panthers a 58-53 lead.

Northern Iowa improved to 20-2 for the season and to 11-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers have won four straight since their lone conference loss, which came at Wichita last month.

Toure' Murry had 17 points for the Shockers (19-5, 8-4).
