NHL: Washington 4, Boston 1

BOSTON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Brooks Laich's third-period goal proved the game-winner Tuesday in the Washington Capitals' franchise-record 11th straight win, 4-1 over Boston.

Laich's wrist shot past Bruins goalie Tim Thomas at 5:04 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie while Jose Theodore backstopped the Caps by stopping 41-of-42 shots.

Mike Knuble, Boyd Gordon and Alex Ovechkin also scored for Washington, which hasn't lost since Jan. 12. Its previous franchise-best winning streak of 10 straight came Jan. 27-Feb. 18, 1984.

Gordon made it 3-1 Washington less than 3 minutes after Laich's tally and Ovechkin added an empty-netter in the closing seconds for the final 4-1 score.

David Krejci got the only goal for Boston, but he was also stoned on a penalty shot as the Bruins lost their eighth straight game and 11th in 12.
