
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Kris Joseph and Arinze Onuaku combined for 43 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday to power No. 4 Syracuse to an 85-68 win over Providence.
The Orange held only a 37-34 advantage at the half, but Onuaku's bucket at the outset of the second frame sparked a decisive 22-5 spurt. The senior netted eight points from in the paint during the stretch for Syracuse (22-1, 9-1 Big East), which is off to the best start in school history.
Joseph poured in 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Onuaku scored 20 in the win. Brandon Triche added 15 points.
Jamine Peterson led all scorers with 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Vincent Council chipped in 16 points and nine assists for the Friars (12-10, 4-6), losers of four of their last five games.
