NHL: Pittsburgh 5, Buffalo 4

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Sydney Crosby's third hat trick of the season Monday carried Pittsburgh to a 5-4 victory over Buffalo, the Penguins' fourth win in their last five games.

Pittsburgh surged ahead with four goals in the second period, three of them by Crosby, raising his total for the season to 37.

The young Penguins' star scored on a power play with 9:07 left in the second and then struck twice, once unassisted, in a span of less than a minute and a half late in the period.

Mark Letestu and Jordan Staal got the other Pittsburgh goals.

Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek, Tim Kennedy and Jason Pominville scored for the Sabres.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves for the Penguins and Buffalo's Ryan Miller had 26.
