MEMPHIS, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Rudy Gay's 25-point effort led Memphis to a 99-93 win over the Los Angeles Lakers Monday in a game that featured a record-breaking achievement by Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, who ended up with 44 points, passed Jerry West to become the leading scorer in Lakers' history with a total of 25,208 points in 14 seasons. His 28th point against Memphis broke the mark West held for decades.
