NHL: Pittsburgh 2, Detroit 1 (SO)

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin notched shootout goals Sunday and the Penguins downed the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.

Crosby, who also scored in regulation, fired a backhand shot past Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard and, after the Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury stopped an attempt by Jason Williams, Malkin sealed the win with a shot into the right corner of the net.

Howard turned away 46 shots by the Penguins and Fleury had 23 saves.

Daniel Cleary scored for the Wings, who have lost four of their last five.
