MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Jonny Flynn capped a late-game surge Friday that allowed the Minnesota Timberwolves to fight off a comeback bid and defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 111-97.

The Timberwolves led by as many as 23 points early in the third period but Los Angeles closed to within five with 5:30 to play. Minnesota then went on a 14-3 run that Flynn finished off with a 3-pointer.

The Timberwolves, owners of the worst record in the Western Conference and the second-worst in the NBA, won their 10th game of the season. They had lost their previous five.

Corey Brewer had 20 points for Minnesota and both Flynn and Ryan Hollins had 19. Al Jefferson claimed 16 rebounds.

Baron Davis produced a season-best 28 for the Clippers, who had beaten Minnesota in their previous three meetings and were trying to sweep a season series from the Timberwolves for the first time in 17 years.
