COVINGTON, Ky., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga was arrested early Friday in Covington, Ky., and charged with drunken driving and careless driving, police said.

Covington police spokesman Spike Jones said Maualuga, 23, struck two parked cars and a parking meter shortly before 2 a.m. and registered a blood-alcohol level of .157, well over Kentucky's .08 legal limit.

The team had no comment, but an unnamed spokesman said on the NFL Web site Maualuga likely will face a maximum $50,000 fine as a first-time offender under the league's substance-abuse policy, but will not be suspended.

Maualuga, a rookie second-round draft pick from USC, is rehabbing a broken ankle he suffered Dec. 27 in a 17-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Cincinnati Post said Friday Maualuga was released on his own recognizance until a preliminary hearing Feb. 25.
