CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian has become a record six-time winner of the Sporting News' Executive of the Year Award.
The award is named after the late George Young, the former General Manager of the New York Giants.
Polian received 24 votes from a panel of 53 coaches and front office executives, eight more than New Orleans' GM Mickey Loomis.
Polian and Young have won it five times each since 1972, the year the annual award initially was given.
"To me, this is the most important and prestigious award a person can get," Polian writes in the magazine's latest issue. "It's named after George Young, a friend and incredible role model."
Among other winners are former San Diego and Washington GM Bobby Beathard; the late Jim Finks, the former GM for the Minnesota Vikings; Kansas City GM Scott Pioli, and Pittsburgh Steelers' President Dan Rooney.
