COLUMBIA, S.C., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Devan Downey scored 30 points in South Carolina's 68-62 upset Tuesday of top-ranked and previously undefeated Kentucky.
Brandis Raley-Ross added 17 points to the Gamecocks' (12-8, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) attack.
DeMarcus Cousins scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds for Kentucky (19-1, 4-1), which was the last unbeaten major men's college team but was undone in large part by shooting an anemic 38.6 percent from the field.
John Wall added 19 points, making just 6-of-16 shots.
South Carolina overcame a 29-26 halftime deficit with a big second half that gave them a 62-56 lead with 1:44 to play. The Wildcats missed two consecutive 3-pointers down the stretch but were within three points with 12.9 seconds to play.
Raley-Ross hit three free throws with under 13 seconds to play to help put the lid on a Kentucky comeback.
