GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Mexican sports officials say they have withdrawn their bid to host the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Guadalajara.
Guadalajara was competing against Nanjing, China, and Poznan, Poland, to host the Games, and the withdrawal came days after an International Olympic Committee report said the city's bid contained "a number of risks," the Guadalajara Reporter said Tuesday.
Emilio Gonzalez, the newly appointed president of the Pan American Games Organizing Committee heading the effort to land the Youth Olympics, had admitted Guadalajara faced problems.
Gonzalez said in a statement, "For time limitations and serious financial restrictions and because of the urgency of concluding and consolidating actions relating to the Pan American Games, we have concluded that it's impossible to run the organization of two competitions that are so complex and prestigious," the Reporter said.
