LA QUINTA, Calif., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Bill Haas birdied the final hole and won the Bob Hope Classic in California Monday, his first title on the PGA Tour.
Haas, who played his final 54 holes with just one bogey, shot an 8-under-par 64 in the final round, finishing at 30-under 330 in the 90-hole event, which had been delayed by rain and extended an extra day.
Matt Kuchar (63), Tim Clark (65) and Bubba Watson (66) tied for second place, one stroke behind Haas at 331.
Haas won in his 141st tournament on the PGA Tour. His father, Jay Haas, a nine-time winner on the tour, won the same event in 1988.
Bill Haas hit a 3-iron to within 27 feet of the pin on the par-5 final hole and two-putted for the win and the $900,000 first-place check.
"I mis-hit it (the iron shot) a little bit, but it worked out," he said. "I was so nervous It was all kind of a blur."
Haas's father followed him around the course, watching from the gallery.
"I was very emotional," Jay Haas said.
