Poutianen wins giant slalom

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Finland's Tanja Poutianen raced to a giant slalom victory Sunday at the Cortina d'Ampezzo mountain resort in northern Italy.

Poutianen finished two runs in 2:26.51.

Viktoria Rebensburg was second in 2:27.56 and Kathrin Hoelzl came in third with a time of 2:27.96. Both skiers are from Germany.

Austrian Kathrin Zettel, who led after the first run, failed to finish.

American Lindsey Vonn, the overall World Cup points leader, placed 19th. Vonn has a 56-point lead in the cup standings heading into next week's competition at St. Moritz, Switzerland.
