Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Jeff Halpern scored the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout Saturday to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
Halpern slipped a wrist shot past Johan Hedberg, and Antero Miittymaki turned away Todd White to secure the win.
Steven Stamkos scored in regulation for Tampa Bay. His slap shot in the first period tied the score 1-1 just two minutes after Atlanta's Nik Antropov had opened the scoring.
Each team had 10 shots on goal in the second period. Atlanta outshot the Lightning 15-6 in the third.
Miittymaki finished with 37 saves for Tampa Bay. Hedberg had 24 saves.
