Boston, however, let an eight-point lead get away over the final 5 minutes of the fourth period and Portland forced the extra period when Martell Webster hit a jumper with 34 seconds to go.

The three-point advantage owned by Boston at the end of the game was the largest either side had in overtime.

After Allen scored the final points of the contest with his dunk, Rudy Fernandez missed two 3-point attempts for Portland.

Boston halted a season-long, three-game losing streak. Paul Pierce led the Celtics in scoring with 24 points and Rajon Rondo had 19.

Portland, playing the third game of a four-game road trip, got 28 points from Andre Miller.
