Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
LA QUINTA, Calif., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Heavy rains in California forced PGA tournament organizers to call off play Thursday at the Bob Hope Classic.
Shane Bertsch had a 10-under-par 62 in Wednesday's opening round of the tournament and owns a 2-stroke lead over Alex Prugh and Jeff Quinney.
Second-round tee times Thursday were pushed back twice before the decision was made to postpone play until Friday. There was no word on whether the tournament would keep its 90-hole format and play the final 18 holes Monday.
The Hope is the only five-round event on the PGA Tour. Professionals play with three amateurs the first four days. The tournament is contested on four courses -- the Arnold Palmer Classic Course at SilverRock Resort, La Quinta Country Club, and the Jack Nicklaus Private Course and Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA West. The Palmer private course is used for the final round.
Rains left standing water on all four courses Thursday.
