OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter says about $312,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from him.

Porter told Alameda Police last week the jewelry was taken from under his car seat last month while he was inside an Oakland salon getting a facial, the Oakland Tribune reported Tuesday.

Police told the newspaper they were still investigating.

They said Porter, 31, who lives in Alameda, reported he last saw the jewelry Dec. 7 when he put it in a bag and slipped it under the seat of his black 2007 BMW M6, but didn't discover it was missing until 10 days later.

The Tribune said Porter explained the reporting delay by saying he was busy and had recently shipped the BMW to Florida, where he's planning to move.

Porter last played for Jacksonville. He was released prior to the start of this season after having signed a $30 million contract with the Jaguars in 2008. He played eight seasons for the Raiders after being drafted in 2000.
