STORRS, Conn., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Jerome Dyson led a hot shooting effort Wednesday that carried No. 21 Connecticut to a 75-59 whipping of St. John's.

It was the first game for the Huskies since the school announced Coach Jim Calhoun had taken a medical leave of absence. George Blaney, Calhoun's chief assistant, will guide the team during Calhoun's absence.

Connecticut shot 57 percent from the field while snapping a three-game losing streak. Dyson made 8-of-14 field goal attempts and scored 21 points.

The Huskies (12-6, 3-3 Big East) broke open the game in the second half after holding a three-point lead at intermission. Stanley Robinson contributed 18 points and Kemba Walker had 17.

D.J. Kennedy scored 19 to pace St. John's (12-6, 2-4).
