BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Rachel Alexandra has been named 2009 Horse of the Year, racing officials announced Monday.
The 3-year-old filly was unbeaten in eight races during the year, including the Preakness.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Rachel Alexandra has been named 2009 Horse of the Year, racing officials announced Monday. The 3-year-old filly was unbeaten in eight races during the year, including the Preakness.

Rachel Alexandra received 130 votes to 99 for second-place Zenyatta for the top honor in the annual Eclipse Awards jointly announced by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, National Turf Writers Association and Daily Racing Form.
Rachel Alexandra earned more than $2.7 million during the year.
