DALLAS, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Steve Ott's sixth-round shootout goal Saturday handed the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Ott's low backhander was counted only after a lengthy review by officials determined goalie Jimmy Howard hadn't swiped it away before it crossed the line. Patrick Eaves then shot wide on the Wings' final shootout opportunity.

Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson also scored for Dallas. Alex Auld stopped 26 shots plus the six in the shootout for the Stars, who have won just two of their last eight games.

Todd Bertuzzi and Brian Rafalski scored for Detroit. Howard turned back 28 shots for the Wings, who had won three of four. Henrik Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom each had two assists.
