COL BKB: Michigan St. 73, Illinois 63

EAST LANSING, N.J., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Kalin Lucas scored 20 points Saturday, keying No. 8 Michigan State's 73-63 Big Ten win over Illinois.

Delvon Roe scored 15 points, and Raymar Morgan added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (15-3, 5-0 Big Ten).

The Fighting Illini got 15 points from Demetri McCamey and 12 from Tyler Griffey but shot only 34.9 percent from the floor as a team.

Illinois took the early lead, going up 19-3 but one 3-pointer by Korie Lucious sparked an 11-0 Spartans run and another to end the half put them up 36-29.

Lucas then broke the game open by scoring nine points in an 11-0 MSU run that put the Spartans up 54-35 7 1/2 minutes into the second half that essentially put the game out of reach despite a late Illinois comeback attempt.
