COL BKB: Ga. Tech 73, North Carolina 71

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The 18th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets blew their 42-28 halftime lead, but slipped past No. 13 North Carolina 73-71.

The victory was Tech's first in Chapel Hill since 1996.

After trailing the entire contest, UNC took a 64-63 lead on a 3-pointer by Will Graves with 4:33 left.

Graves also buried a 3-pointer for a 69-67 UNC lead with 1:50 left, but Tech finished with a 6-2 spurt.

Iman Shumpert led Georgia Tech with 30 points and six assists.

Gani Lawal had 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Brian Oliver added eight points for the Yellow Jackets (13-4, 2-2 ACC), who have won five of seven.

Graves led North Carolina with 24 points and seven rebounds.

Ed Davis and Deon Thompson scored 12 points apiece with a combined 15 rebounds for the Tar Heels (12-6, 1-2), who have lost three of four.

They committed 17 turnovers.
