Enos takes over Central Michigan football

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Dan Enos, who has been an assistant coach for 19 years but never a head coach, was hired Tuesday as the football coach at Central Michigan.

Enos, 41, replaces Butch Jones, who left Central Michigan to take over Cincinnati's football program. Jones left Central Michigan before the Chippewas' GMAC Bowl victory over Troy. Steve Stripling led Central Michigan into the bowl as interim coach.

Enos was quarterbacks coach at Michigan State the last four seasons and previously was an assistant at seven other schools, including Cincinnati, Western Michigan and Missouri State.

Central Michigan is coming off a 12-2 season, capped with a 44-41 double-overtime bowl win that allowed the Chippewas to finish ranked (No. 24) in the final USA Coaches' football poll. Central Michigan has also won three Mid-America Conference championships in the last four seasons.
