NHL: New Jersey 2, Montreal 1 (OT)

MONTREAL, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Zach Parise scored to give the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens Saturday in a contest with top-notch goaltending by both squads.

Parise took an outlet pass from Travis Zajac near the edge of the right circle and chipped a backhander past Habs goalie Jaroslav Halak for the game winner.

The goal spoiled an otherwise solid night for Halak, who stopped 26 shots and kept the tough Devils off the board after giving up an early goal to Zajac.

Martin Brodeur had 29 saves for the Devils, who won their third consecutive game.

Zajac gave New Jersey a 1-0 lead at 4:07 of the first period with assists from Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner.

Scott Gomez tied it in the second period on a power-play goal off a shot by Roman Hamrlik that hit the post.
