RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Rod Brind'amour's goal late in the second period put Carolina ahead and the Panthers kept Ottawa scoreless the rest of the way Sunday, beating the Senators 4-1.

The contest was tied 1-1 when Brind'amour scored.

Cam Ward held Ottawa scoreless in the first and third periods, finishing with 31 saves for the Panthers, who have won three of their last four games.

Tom Kostopoulos, Brett Carson and Eric Staal also scored for Carolina.

Chris Kelly produced the lone Ottawa goal, which gave the Senators a lead that lasted just 40 seconds in the second period.

Ottawa's Pascal Leclaire blocked 29 shots.
