NHL: Buffalo 3, Toronto 2

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Tyler Myers scored twice on the power play Friday to help open a three-goal lead and Buffalo fought off Toronto 3-2 to win its sixth in a row.

Only New Jersey has more wins than the Sabres in the Eastern Conference and Buffalo increased its lead to nine points over second-place Boston in the Northeast Division.

All Buffalo's goals were power-play tallies, starting with one by Tim Kennedy with 2:52 left in the first period. Myers delivered his first goal 1:31 later and added one midway through the second.

Ryan Miller was coasting along with a shutout working through two frames, but gave up goals to Matt Stajan and John Mitchell in the third. Miller won his fourth straight start and captured his 25th victory of the year by stopping a hefty 48 shots.

Vesa Toskala took the loss, making 28 saves.

The six-game winning streak is Buffalo's longest since December, 2007. The Sabres have lost only two games in regulation out of their last 16. Buffalo has also beaten Toronto 10 straight times.
