ATLANTA, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Bryan Little's goal in the fifth shootout round gave Atlanta a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers Thursday, ending the Thrashers' nine-game losing streak.

Atlanta avoided what would have been its longest skid in almost a decade.

Slava Kozlov scored in the second round of the shootout for Atlanta and Marian Gaborik tied it in the third.

Little finally put an end to the shootout and the losing streak by getting the best of Chad Johnson, who made 31 saves in defeat.

Atlanta could not score in regulation until Jim Slater beat Johnson with a backhander 6:06 into the third period to forge a 1-1 tie.

The only goal off Johan Hedberg, who made 29 saves, came from Enver Lisin 2:49 deep in the second period.

The Rangers had won their previous two games.
