NHL: Toronto 3, Florida 2

TORONTO, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Alexei Ponikarovsky scored the game-winning goal late in the second period Tuesday to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 win over Florida.

Jonas Gustavsson stopped 29 shots for Toronto, and Lee Stempniak and Tomas Kaberle scored goals for the Maple Leafs.

Bryan McCabe, a former Maple Leaf, scored both goals for the Panthers, who have lost four of their last five.

Tomas Vokoun made 28 saves for Florida.
