McGahee earns AFC offensive player honor

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee was the final 2009 AFC Offensive Player of the Week when honors were announced Wednesday in New York.

The former Miami-Florida product captured the honor after rushing for a career-high 167 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns, leading Baltimore to a 21-13 win at Oakland and securing an AFC wild-card playoff berth.

Other AFC POW's went to Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson (Defense) and San Diego place-kicker Nate Kaeding (Special Teams).

Johnson was the third linebacker in NFL history to score on two pass interceptions in the same game in the Chiefs' surprising 44-24 win at Denver.

Kaeding kicked three field goals in the Chargers' 23-20 win over the Washington Redskins, giving him with a franchise single-season record .914 field goal percentage (32-of-35), and leading the Chargers to their 11th-straight victory.

It was the first POW honor for Johnson and the second for Kaeding.
