PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A 20-point effort from Lavoy Allen Wednesday led No. 25 Temple to a 73-46 whipping of Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 opener for both schools.

Allen also grabbed 11 rebounds and was backed up by 13 points each from Ryan Brooks and Michael Eric. Temple (12-3) defeated the Hawks for the sixth straight time.

Saint Joseph's (4-9) suffered its eighth loss in nine games and shot just 31 percent from the field.

Temple scored the game's first seven points, fell back into an 11-11 tie 6 minutes deep into the contest and then went on a 9-0 surge to break things open. The Owls were coming off a loss to Kansas that snapped their seven-game winning streak.
