COLORADO SPRINGS, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Scott Blackmun has agreed to rejoin the U.S. Olympic Committee as the group's chief executive officer, the USOC announced Wednesday.
Blackmun, 52, previously was a senior executive with the USOC and served as acting CEO for 11 months in 2000-01. He currently is an executive with the Anschutz Entertainment Group and a partner in the Holme Roberts & Owen LLP law firm. He takes over at the USOC on Jan. 26, about 2 1/2 weeks before the start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.
"I am thrilled to be returning to the USOC and to be a part of an organization and movement I am so passionate about," Blackmun said. "… And I am ready to make a long-term commitment to the success of this organization and America's athletes and to supporting the growth of the Olympic Movement worldwide."
He replaces Stephanie Streeter, who has served as interim CEO since Jim Scheer resigned the position in March.
Other finalists considered for the USOC position reportedly included former San Diego Padres CEO Sandy Alderson, TD Ameritrade Chairman Joe Moglia and USA Swimming CEO Chuck Wielgus.
