COL FB: Auburn 38, Northwestern 35 (OT)

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Wes Byrum's 21-yard field goal in overtime Friday delivered Auburn a 38-35 Outback Bowl win over Northwestern in Tampa.

Byrum's kick kept Auburn from wasting five interceptions of Mike Kafka passes.

Northwestern scored 15 points in 125 seconds, creating a 35-35 tie with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter.

Ben Tate led Auburn with two touchdowns on 20 carries for 108 yards.

Walter McFadden and T'Sharvan Bell made two interceptions each, and Darvin Adams caught 12 passes for 142 yards for the Tigers (8-5), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Kafka threw a bowl record 78 passes, completing 47 for a career-high 532 yards with four touchdowns. Andrew Brewer scored twice on eight catches for 133 yards.

Drake Dunsmore scored once on nine receptions for 121 yards, while Sidney Stewart scored once on 10 catches for 97 yards for the Wildcats (8-5), who last won in the post season at the 1949 Rose Bowl.
